You know those little perfume samples stores give you when you make a purchase? They work. Or at least the sample I received of Estee Lauder's Modern Muse did on me. I fell in love with it almost straight away, and despite needing absolutely no more perfume I just had to have it!

Truth be told when I think of perfume houses, Estee Lauder doesn't immediately come to mind, which is probably the reason this truly lovely fragrance has passed me by for so long.

Estee Lauder describe this story of this fragrance as: 'Modern Muse was inspired by the complexity of a modern woman, with the same dynamic contrasts as her life and her personality. Her creative energy and magnetic femininity are captured by its multi-faceted, sparkling floralcy. Her sleek style, strength and sensuality by its sleek woods.'

For me, this perfume is just a bit of a modern classic. It's floral without being too fresh or powdery, features woody and musky notes without being overbearing and heavy, yet has enough fullness to not smell 'cheap'

The Jasmine is front and centre in this fragrance, but it also features a mix of Mandarin, Tuberose, Honeysuckle and Lily. The base is filled with Patchouli, Amber, Madgascan Vanilla and Soft Musk.

When I look at the other fragrances in my collection that I love, like Chanel Coco Madamoiselle, Miss Dior and Chloe, it's no real surprise that I love Estee Lauder's Modern Muse too. I seem to love that classic mix of White Florals teamed with Patchouli and a hint of musk.

On one hand, Modern Muse is a very 'safe' and inoffensive fragrance, yet in many ways that's exactly why I enjoy it. It's classic without being too boring, grown up and sophisticated without feeling like your granny might wear it, whilst being elegant and polished with just a hint of sexiness. It's not a fragrance that's dramatically unique yet I never fail to receive compliments whenever I wear this.

Overall I think this is a lovely feminine yet somewhat sophisticated perfume, one I reach for regularly and will continue to do so for some time to come.
